It was another disciplined and spirited performance by the VFC Old Boys at Seikhazou ground this morning as the Old Boys cruised to another great victory in the MPL, this time against the experienced Merhulitsa FC.

In the first half, both teams inspite of repeated attacks being made failed to capitalize on the chances created to take the lead. The first half included shots hitting the crossbar for both sides as well as breathtaking escapes in front of the goal.

While the Old Boys dominated ball possession for most part of the match , MRH FC was also not too far behind in the proceedings constantly threatening the Old Boys goal at the beginning of second half until the Old Boys took the lead from an own goal by MRH FC’s Supong from a ball made by Old Boys’ Dithanglo Magh (# 10) in the 57th minute.
The Old Boys striker Benjamin Tsela (# 9) soon after doubled the lead 3 minutes later in the 60th minute through an assist by the Old Boys’ skipper Hethanglo Kath (# 7). VFC Old Boys brought in Haisalo Kath (# 2) in place of Tenyeyhunlo not(# 11) right after but the MRH FC soon cut the deficit by half through a goal by their veteran striker Isak Kemp in the 62nd minute as the Old Boys backline failed to clear the ball in a defensive mix-up.
The Old Boys soon introduced two quick changes in the form of Seyalo Kath (# 14) for Hinumo Thong (# 16) and Akvulo Seb (# 6) for Andrew Thong (# 8)

The Old Boys striker Benjamin Tsela (# 9) made it three for the Old Boys through another assist by the Captain in the 68th minute to seal the game. Towards the end of the game , the Old Boys’ winger Dithanglo Magh (# 10) was replaced by Thanpenlo Woch (# 13) ending the game in favour of the Old Boys which was followed soon after by the final whistle.

The only booking in the match was that of Zalie of MRH FC who was cautioned for a foul play.

With two wins in two games, the VFC Old Boys have earned themselves a dream start to their MPL campaign currently placed at the top of the table with 6 points with a goal difference margin of 3 goals. It will all depend on the results of the remaining 2 matches of the week, whether the Old Boys will remain at the top of the table at the end of Week 2 of the MPL.

VFC Old Boys will take on Kohima Raiders in the next match scheduled to be played on 05.03.19.
